How to use Microsooft visual studio 2005 without Microsoft Propietary functions?
Hello, I want to code in and practice C++, c Programing in Windows XP with Microsoft visual Studio 2005 without using Microsoft Propietary funtions which I cannot use on a commercial software applications without Microsoft notice and for Crossplatform use, SO how to avoid those funtions, Header files etc. And Practise good ANSI standard Programming.
You can write console applications in standard C and C++ using Visual Studio and they don't require any proprietary code or libraries unless they are being specifically compiled for Windows, and in that case you have all necessary redistribution rights if it's just plain C or C++. You can force ANSI compliance with options, and the resulting vanilla C should be highly portable.
The key is to avoid using any proprietary stuff. For example, I never use MFC. One reason for not using it is that it locks me into the Microsoft world. Another reason is that it gains nothing, since I have to spend as much time looking up MFC classes and what-not as it would take me to roll my own code. And a third reason is that I don't want to have to worry about redistributables. The more vendor-specific stuff you use, the more you have to worry about whether or not you can bind or redistribute it with your software.
