Do USB-to-parallel adapters actually work or are they just a scam? Would a serial-to-parallel work for printer?
I need to connect two computers to the same printer, and one of the computers is not networked. Well, first of all I should ask if the printer will work with both the parallel and USB plugged in.
Some printer will allow both cable type to be connected at once, but most will not.
You will need to look at the documentation for the printer to find out if it will allow for multiple connection, or if it will only allow one cable to be plugged in at a time.
You will have different driver sets for the parallel vs the USB cables. So you would have to set up the two computers to use the printer separately.
The obvious question for me to ask, is why not network the second computer and let it use network drivers to access the printer through the computer it is attached to. That computer would use local drivers. A USB wireless adapter would allow the non-networked computer to access a wireless network. Or you could use an ethernet cable between the computer that has the printer attached, and the other computer. Networking them to each other.
