sheath for the fuser assembly on my laserjet broke... now what?
so, i have a HP Laserjet 3015, and recently, the printer started jamming and spitting out little chunks of blackened plastic-like materials... upon disassembling it, i discovered that the plastic-like sheath that covered the fuser assembly had been cracking... i am not sure i am using the right terminology.. i know this is the order

the sheath had deteriorated and started cracking/falling to pieces... what do i do now... i would really rather not buy a new printer, and a replacement fuser assembly is 112 dollars... it includes the sheath... but the fuser is fine, so i don't need a new one...the part that i need probably cost at the most 20 cents to make... is there some material that i can use in replacement of the sheath... i don't want to use the printer with ought it... it might cause a fire...

well the last guys answer would totally scew you up since he knows nothing about laser printers. the part the ripped is called fuser film it is more then 20 cents . Closer to $30 and if the bottom pressure roller got messed up to you need to replace that . changing it is not the easiest you also have to apply a grease ( specifically for fusers) a kit that comes with the 2 rollers grease and some gears is about $60 - $70 but like I said not the easiest you can easily tear the fuser film or wrinkle it trying to install it. (the fuser teflon film is a little thicker then paper and can get messed up installing it. ) to change a technician is your best bet to do it. using it with out the fuser film will make your prints smear and the more you use it the harder it is to clean it heating element (clean with alcohol %99 ) you may have to replace the heating element too if you use it to much with out the fuser film.
